89 Melissa Kilby – I own my bossiness

June 20, 2018

  • "Girl Up started as an American idea and we have organically inspired clubs in over 100 countries."
  • "I went through some significant bullying in middle school and now wish I had had something like Girl Up because I could have found like-minded girls."
  • "For all the little girls out there who are called bossy, just own it because it will serve you when you find that thing you want to put your energy towards."

My beautifully spirited guest this week is serving and supporting our world in such a magnificent way! Melissa Kilby is Co-Executive Director of Girl Up— a leadership development program working to achieve gender equality for girls everywhere and making a massive impact on how girls are viewed as leaders and changemakers.

Melissa’s mission inspires, convenes, trains and connects girls globally in a way that has been done organically (or divinely) for years. “Girls join Girl Up because they want to make an impact on the world,” Melissa states. Listen in as Melissa tells my favorite story about a girl with a bicycle that changed my perspective on life!

Melissa’s  journey and pivotal moments as a “singled out” teen growing up carved her future as a guiding torch for Girl Up. She has channeled her energy, or what has always been called her “bossiness” into a global force affecting girls…. as well as boys. A topic incredibly near and dear to my heart, Melissa reveals on the show today surprising new initiatives that have her “Going 100 miles an hour!”
